1) Can we handle re-thatching on our own? Yes, of course! We can send African Synthetic Thach, Smart Synthetic Thatch or Alang Alang Balinese Thatch anywhere in Australia, free in Brisbane. We would be delighted to walk you through the procedure and determine how much thatch you would require plus you will have access to our professional step by step installation instructions.

2) Do all Huts fade to grey? Yes, It Does. The outer layer of the thatch will fade into a more neutral grey and form a crush like structure on the outer layer of the Bali Huts. This is totally normal. When we mention Thatch life, we refer to the time it takes for the Thatch to break down over a period of 10 to 15 years depending on various factors like weather, shade, tree cover or physical damage. When you start seeing the fold, you know it’s time for a re-thatch.

3) Does “Thatch Coating” prevent Bali Huts and African Gazebos to turn grey? No No No! Do not waist your money on any additional “Thatch Coating Services” is not working at all. The only way to prevent Thatch from detreating over time is to keep the Thatch away from rain and sun and away from weather elements at all time. The closes you will get to keeping the original golden colour would be to install Smart Thatch or Smart Thatch over the original Alang alang Thatch.

4) How much does a new Bali Hut cost to install. The cost of a Bali Hut can most certainly vary a lot depending on a few important factors. -Not to worry, we do have a custom design for every budget. -Design of the Bali Hut. We do custom build any shape or size Bali Hut, plus designs that is unique and one of. -Size of the Bali Hut will determine the size of the timber needed to build your Bali Hut. From about a 3.5x3.5 the ring beams, hips and rafters will go up from 190x45 and 90x35 to 240x45 and 140x35. With a 6x6m Bali Hut the Ring-beams will be 300x50mm and longer than 6m span we are starting to look at LVL laminated beams, which is very costly indeed plus the hits and rafters will have to be adjusted accordingly. -The type timber you want to use for your Bali Hut. We use Radiata Pine stained black or Rich Chocolate as standard. -The stain you want to use, the price may differ if you want a different colour. -Round or Square post. Coppers log round post is the most affordable and most used. Upgrading to square post taking into account council or no council. We can source landscaping grade hardwood square post for very affordable prices but as soon as something is graded structural the price 4x before you can even blink your eyes. -The Thatch spacing. We recommend 75mm but thatch spacing can very form 50mm in most extreme cases to 100mm. -The choice of ridge capping / crown. -If you choose to put it through Council it could unfortunately vary from $2500 to $3500. -If you chose to buy a DIY kit, save money buy installing the kit yourself. -Alang Alang Thatch or Smart Thatch. -Payment method. -Area where you live. The cost of installing a Bali Hut may differ from how far the site is from where we are based. If the Bali Hut is in Arlie Beach, Perth or just down the road we have to take that into account.
