Why use Brisbane Thatch and Decks

Why is Brisbane Thatch the best

Brisbane Thatch & Decks doesn't use contractors or

independent installers.

We build and install our own design and long  lasting Tram-wood Gazebos using our own certified installers.

Brisbane Thatch Shingle Huts

Please take note:  Shingles Quality may results in Cracks

Brisbane Thatch and Decks give no warranty on the shingles, huts and products.

Please take note: due to the growing shortages in timber products the quality of shingles is also suffering. We at Brisbane Thatch and Decks are more than happy to build and install shingle huts but we do not give any warranty on the shingles themselves. We found that due to high demand the suppliers do not cure the shingles long enough which can lead to the shingles drying out on the roof after installation thus results in shingles cracking and gaps opening between the shingles. Due to the overlaying method used to install the shingles, it is very difficult to replace a single shingle after it has been installed...

Brisbane Thatch Shingle Huts

Tram-Wood Pattern Shingle Huts

This is the Tram-Wood Diamond Patterned Shingle Hut built by Brisbane Thatch and Decks.

Various outdoor entertainment roofs like Gazebos, Huts and Pavilion roof structures could be transformed into Shingle Roof Huts or Gazebos. The most popular candidates would be Brushwood roof structures. A Brushwood Roof can easily be turned into a Balinese Hut or a Shingle Gazebo using Tram-wood Shingles.

A Shingle Hut or Gazebo is a freestanding structure with a roof covering material that consists of smaller overlapping flat elements called shingles.  These shingles are usually rectangular and could have a pattern or sharp point on the ends. Shingles could take various sizes and be made of various elements such as wood, asphalt, slate, plastic, fibrocement, asbestos (which we stay far away from now) and various other composite materials.

From the early beginning, European settlers on Australian soil were forced to build houses and structures with materials readily available. Wood was the most common material available. From there our love affair started with the old Queenslander houses and shingle roofs. Even today we all instinctively want the outback escape and hideaway from the sun under a primitive timber shingle roof structure.

We at Brisbane Thatch and Decks provide an entirely timber custom built Shingle Hut also referred to as a Shingle Gazebo, Shingle Pergola or Shingle Cabana built to any shape and size you desire.

Brisbane Thatch and Decks also fits shingles to other timber structures that need a facelift such as old brushwood structures.

We at Brisbane Thatch and Decks mainly use Tram-wood shingles that have a life expectancy of around 10 years as per Suppliers information and Specifications. We can also offer  Canadian Red Cedar shingles when available.

Brushwood Huts

Brushwood is arguably the worst roofing material ever.

With a little bit of effort, Brisbane Thatch and Decks can turn your old sad brushwood structure into a magnificent Diamond pattern Tram-wood shingle roof, just as we have done with the Brushwood roof on the photo to the right.

Tram-wood is much more durable than traditional Canadian red cedar shingles. Tram-wood is a very heavy hardwood. Tram-wood is very similar to Merbau in that it's a semi hardwood that is a very popular decking material with a durability one grading for Australian weather conditions.

The Diamond pattern just gives it a far more intricate design than the Standard Canadian red Cedar Shingles.

The inside of the Tram-wood Shingle structure is just as impressive. Tram-wood shingles are much longer than Canadian red cedar shingles, thus requiring a wider batten spacing than the Canadian Red Cedar. Because of that, it's not as busy on the inside and looks just amazing. We only use stainless steel fasteners on the shingles, making sure there are no weak links that would stop the roof from reaching a ripe age of at least 20 years. (*We do quote the Shingle Suppliers / Manufacturers on the lifespan statistics) We also clean up the site after installation and remove all the rubbish and old roofing materials.

Please feel free to contact Brisbane Thatch and Decks for a free site inspection and advise as to the new design of your outdoor living and entertaining deck areas and Gazebo's.

A Shingle hut will outlast a Balinese thatched Hut/Gazebo/Cabana or Pavilion but costing analysis over a twenty year period will prove that they cost about the same. A shingle hut will cost more initially though through a higher product cost as well as being more labour intensive.
