Bad Practices to Avoid when ReThatching
You Bali Hut
There are some definite No No's when it comes to Re-Thatching your Bali Hut.
The biggest one is mudbugs on skewer, Will leave that one for the BBQ.

But do not worry - We will not just Re-Thatch your Bali Hut but also make sure we leave the bad practices behind,

List of things to avoid when it time for a Re - Thatch

1) The main thing to avoid on your Bali Hut is "Cable ties"

1.1) The Cable ties get brittle in the sun and do not hold the mudbugs as tight as galvanized wire.
2) The 2nd is the "Stick" - It simply does not last and you will lose the Mudbugs one by one...
2.1) The plastic cable ties does not hold the Alang alang Hip Thatch Bundles tight enough and
2.2) With the 45x35mm stick you lose a lot of the mudbugs ability to cover the hips.
3)The reason they use this method is to save time, It is very quick and easy to install the mudbugs but it simply does not last.
4) If you have a square Bali Hut it does not allow 2nd ring mudbugs on the ridge or crown.
5) If you have a rectangular Bali Hut, make sure That the ridge is built up with at least 6 - 7 rows of thatch to make sure you have adequate thickness at the top of your Bali Hut Ridge.
You will only notice a problem after 5 years and by that time it is too late to get the Thatching Company to come back and fix it especially if they use contractors to do the Re-Thatch
Mudbugs on a Stick Tied with Cable Ties Trick, the Biggest contributor to Creep!

Q) Probably the worse practice other professional thatching companies make is the practice of pre-fixing the mudbugs on a skewer with cable ties to save time on the installation. This leads to premature water damage to the Bail Hut. The Cable Ties get brittle over a few years and loose the ability to hold the Mudbugs in place, Thus reducing the waterproofing and water damage the ends of the thatch coming together at the hips

R) Creep is the results of Mudbugs falling apart, not protecting the ends of the thatch strips and allowing water to damage the Thatch joining at the Hips.

S) S is a further result of the bad Mudbug on a stick practice. The Mudbugs on a stick comes together very clumsy at the ridge. The ridge will collapse after a short time and again allow water to penetrate to deep in the layers of the Thatch...

Don't allow any Thatching Company to take any shortcuts by installing the hip covering Mudbugs on a stick.
